Thrive brings volunteers from the Wichita community together with people who are struggling financially, so that they may learn from each another. It is difficult for the average person to understand what living in poverty feels like or what the daily struggles are. People living in poverty are often overwhelmed by almost constant crises, and it helps when they can pause, take a breath, and talk to caring people in a welcoming environment. When volunteers listen and offer support, they learn about the realities of poverty and the many kinds of barriers that exit. Everyone learns to relate to diverse people and see one another as individuals, not labels.
Thrive provides supportive relationships and guidance toward identifying goals and barriers, so that people in poverty can collaborate with volunteers and staff to make plans and begin to work step by step toward their future. Thrive also helps them connect with many existing resources in the community that can help them move forward.
A Message from the Board President, Bob Mayle
Over the past two years, Thrive was blessed by good leadership and a hard-working board who kept Thrive alive during the pandemic. Many similar programs across the state stopped operating, but Thrive continued to serve our families with weekly phone contact, drive-thru dinners and educational speakers on Zoom. We are thrilled that we have survived, that we now meet weekly in-person again, and that we are starting a new introductory class this month! Our last fund-raising event was in March 2020. We have been financially responsible and are in good shape. However, we are planning to grow our program and so donations and participation in our upcoming online auction are very important!! Please help us provide a relationship-based support system for families that really want to move ahead in their lives.
We are also now seeking a part time Case Management Coach to fill the void left by Marie's promotion. If you have a heart for service and working to encourage and guide our program families in their journey out of poverty, please contact us by email to: director@thrivehelps.org or call us and leave a message at 316-541-0022.
